I am a lover of art, architecture, and photography (almost all of the photos on this web site are mine), am addicted to travel and to learning, and appreciate the beauty of carefully sculptured prose. Curiosity defines my existence and enriches my experiences, and I hope it never abates. I was born in Lima, Peru and immigrated to the United States with my family as a child. I was brought up bilingual in a house full of books and art, with parents who believed that we should explore our surroundings wherever we were. Teaching and mentoring undergraduate students is my passion, and the experiences I have had through travel, study, and work inform and enrich my teaching. My service as a Peace Corps volunteer in Morocco helped me define my career path and decide to dedicate myself to an academic life.
