Text: Dozier, Eleanor, Zulma Iguina. Manual de gramática: Grammar Reference for Students of Spanish 5th Ed. Thomson Heinle, 2013.
Assignments: Frequent homework is necessary and expected in a foreign language class. For each day of class, the homework will be posted. Late work will not be accepted except in exceptional circumstances.
Quizzes: There will be daily quizzes on the material covered in the homework, in presentations, and in class. These will be short, but comprehensive. There will be no make-up quizzes.
Presentations: Students will prepare presentations based on an expansion of topics from each reading. Presentations must be eight to ten minutes, and must include a visual component, an MLA-style bibliography (with sources in SPANISH), a handout, and a class activity. In choosing topics among the ones listed in the syllabus, students may not do three topics in the same category (culture, literature, grammar).
Writing Assignments: These will culminate in a final project made up of a series of essays about a person of historical significance in the Spanish-speaking world.
